Join the hundreds of thousands of runners who have used Run 5k to go from a couch potato to a 5k (3.1 miles) runner. This app is great for beginner runners who have never run before or former runners who want to start up again.

The Run 5k app has been featured on CNN.com, Boston.com’s lifestyle-health section, and in Health Magazine. Get into shape using our 8-week beginner training plan, complete with an animated warmup and cooldown stretching program. This app has voice cues that guide you even when your screen is locked. The app tells you when to run and walk and gives audio cues for distance and pace when you use GPS. You can use this app outside, on a track, or in the gym.

FEATURES
• Apple Watch app—you can leave your phone at home while you work out with our Watch app, or continue to use our Watch app together with the iPhone app.
• Speaks pace, distance, intervals, and halfway point.
• Optionally uses GPS for pace and distance. (You can also use this app on a treadmill or indoor track without GPS.)
• Animated warmup and cooldown stretching programs with timer and voice cues.
• Tap out your heart rate on the heart icon.
• Supports Bluetooth heart rate monitors.
• Integrates with the Health app. Set your weight in the Health app to calculate Calories burned, and to save your Active Calories for each workout.

ABOUT the WORKOUTS
• 8-week training program perfect for beginners or former runners.
• Each workout is about 30 minutes long.
• Interval training alternates between jogging and walking.
• Workout intervals gradually become more challenging.
• 5-minute warmup and 5-minute cooldown, which are skippable.
• Speaks each jog and walk interval, halfway mark, and 1-minute-left mark.
• Optionally speaks pace and distance information every 1/2 mile or 1/2 km.
• Automatically checks off each completed workout and records your date, pace and distance.

AUDIO CUES and NOTIFICATIONS
If you’re not getting Notifications in the background, open the Settings app, select Notifications, then scroll down to find Run 5k in the list. Tap on Run 5k and turn on Notification Center, choose an alert style, and turn everything else on (Sound, Badge App Icon, Lock Screen). Check your volume and make sure your ringer switch is not set to silent/vibrate.

HEALTH
This app can be integrated with the Health app. Your weight set in the Health app can be used to calculate Calories burned during a workout, and the total Active Calories burned can be saved to Health app after each workout. Sharing this information with the Health app is optional.

GPS and LOCATION
To show distance and pace information, Run 10k can use GPS location tracking during a workout. For best results, use this app outside where you can see open sky. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Pros and cons of Run 5k - couch to 5k program app for iPhone and iPad

Run 5k - couch to 5k program app good for

I had been debating whether or not to buy this app for a while since I dont have a treadmill and running outside just wasnt an option all the time. So I waited till it finally warmed up and decided to purchase this app and boy, I am glad that I did. Ive only just started (Im on week 2) but I am loving it! I look forward to this workout. I love the simplicity of the app. It would be really nice if it had a calories burned function and the ability to shuffle your songs but other than that this app is awesome!! Definitely would recommend to someone that has been thinking about getting this. Thanks for getting me motivated!!!
Love this app...Im on the end of week 2 right now and i just love it! This is the perfect way to ease into running...I cant thank you enough! I experienced some glitches in my run yesterday but hopefully after installing the updates it will be running more smoothly. I recommend this app to ANYONE who wants to learn how to run and not pass out in the process! :P
Love love love this app! No watching the clock, just set up a good running music mix and go!!! I even want to run a little longer..... Thanks for the app.
Really useful to train you! My only wish would be if it had a similar guided program that counted down to ensure proper stretching after a run.
I am on week 6 and NEVER thought Id be able to run as long as I can now. All ready downloaded the next program too (10k!). I love that you can shorten the warm up if you wish! Totally recommend this app!
Ive been off and on the running bandwagon, and this time around, Im actually sticking with it because of this app. I love the help with the interval training. It would be great if there was a mapping feature as well.

Some bad moments

God, how I HATE this shoddily programmed piece of dreck - slow, dumb and randomly ignoring playlists, most often the ones you want at that moment... might look godd but that is it has got to offer, very frustrating.
Good concept but poorly designed. The music does not integrate well. I have an iPhone4 and after there is a voice command I have to restart the music. This is something that you have to stop jogging to do. So basically its just a stopwatch. Dont waste your money.
We stopped using this because it would randomly stop timing during walk/run periods. Wed be thinking "hasnt it been 90 seconds?" only to open the phone up and see that it was "stuck" on a time. Case example. I went for a run at 6:30 and it stopped working during the exercise so I put the phone away and ran. 2 hours later it popped up saying it was time to walk.... First app I feel like Ive legitimately wasted my $$.
Audio cues? They never happen and now I can run for 45 mins. Thank you 5k. How exactly - step by step - do I start the program and music so that I can run knowing audio cues are coming when they should? Each update changes this feature and Im ready to try another app.
Tried to use the app for a run through phone. While the app does show the cues, with podcast playing it did not provide audio cues. Thats not very helpful. Dont want to have to look at my phone to know when to run/walk. Next run I tried using the Apple Watch version hoping that would provide cues. This time I listened to an audio book on my phone and used the Apple Watch for the cues think g it would provide some sort of either haptic or audio feedback. NOTHING. Again I only way cued by staring at my watch. That is ridiculous. Why bother.
I loved this app, but apparently I can no longer use it since I dont have ios 6. :(
